The next-gen Volvo S40, V40 and XC40 are coming to America

Volvo will bring the 40-series compact range to the U.S. within three yeas. The company plans to debut a sedan, station wagon and crossover once the 40-series range is redesigned, using the CMA architecture and deploying three- and four-cylinder engines across the range, in addition to a hybrid.

The V40 hatch is currently on sale in Europe, though it'll be the next-gen version of this vehicle that will be offered stateside. An S40 sedan is not currently in production -- the model expired back in 2012.

The current V40 and V40 Cross Country are already on their way out, with the company having unveiled the last facelift for the model at the Geneva motor show just a few days ago.

A compact crossover will finally allow Volvo to offer a competitor to the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class, Audi Q3, Mazda CX-3 and Volkswagen's upcoming sub-Tiguan model, among others.
