In 1929, a private airfield with a small hangar was organized on the site of the amusement park. This tiny airfield was then called Glenn Curtiss Airport. Later it was renamed Nord Beach Airport. The airport developed rapidly at the beginning, but its distance from New York could not compete with the airport in New Arch, which was located closer to the city. The mayor who then ruled New York, Fiorello LaGuardia, wanted to achieve the popularization of the North Beach Airport and in 1939 it was expanded and modernized. Until 1947, the airport was active, serving domestic and international flights, freight and passenger traffic. It was a large and modern airport for that time, but, unfortunately, it quickly became outdated, complaints began to come in about the tightness of the premises and so on. And with the opening of John F. Kennedy Airport, LaGuardia's passenger traffic has dropped altogether. All international flights have been moved to the new airport. Nevertheless, LaGuardia continued to exist, gradually gaining momentum and by the beginning of the 21st century could no longer cope with the number of its passengers, which amounted to more than 25 million people. Despite all the improvements introduced at the airport over the decades, a global restructuring and modernization of the entire airport was required for its full operation in the modern world. The airport currently has four terminals, spacious passenger lounges, shops and cafes. All airport services operate smoothly.
